Fast & Furious Family Tree

  • The Fast and Furious franchise is known for its focus on family, with each film introducing new relatives and siblings to the main characters.
  • The Toretto family is the heart and soul of the series, with Dom, Letty, and Mia being the central figures, along with their extended family.
  • Other important families in the franchise include the O’Conners, the Shaws, the Hobbses, and the Neveses, each with their own unique dynamics and connections to the main characters.

The Fast and Furious franchise is known for mostly two things: outrageous car stunts and family, leading to a strange family tree. Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto is always preaching the importance of the family unit, and while he often means family in a more symbolic, communal sense, the series has put a big focus on real family units. Almost every entry in the franchise has introduced some long-lost sibling, or new child to a preexisting character, giving audiences several ancestries to keep track of.

While the series mostly focuses on the Torettos and their extended family, over the course of 10 movies and one spinoff, audiences have been introduced to several other clans, some friends, and some foes. It is a lot to keep track of and can often get confusing. Here is a cheat sheet breaking down every Fast and Furious family tree.

7 The Torettos

The Torettos are the heart and soul of the Fast Saga, with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) being the protagonist of most of the mainline films. In the first film, The Fast and the Furious, audiences are introduced to Dom and his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster). However, over the past 20 years, the Toretto bloodline has grown exponentially.

Dom married Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), the love of his life; F9: The Fast Saga introduced Dom and Mia’s long-lost brother Jakob (John Cena), and most recently Fast X added the casting of Rita Moreno as the siblings’ grandmother and the matriarch of the family. Dom also has a son, Brian (nicknamed Little B), and Mia has two kids, Jack and Olivia. The Toretto lineage is long and confusing, and the genealogy makes little sense, but they love each other and are willing to go to the ends of the earth to protect their family.

6 The O’Conners

Compared to the Torettos, the O’Conner family is much easier to keep track of. Mia is married to Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and together they have two kids, Jack and Olivia. While they may have a different last name, the O’Conners are very much a part of the Toretto family, most of them by blood. Dom and Brian often refer to each other as brothers, and while they do share a close brother-like bond, they are also literally brothers-in-law. After the tragic death of Paul Walker, the O’Conners have had significantly less screen time, but their presence is still felt throughout the series.

5 The Shaws

The Shaws are a British family of thieves and mercenaries, and while they fight more often than the Torettos, they share the same values of family first and everything else second. First introduced as adversaries, the Shaws have become important allies with Dom Toretto and his Fast family. Queenie (Helen Mirren), in particular, has become close with Dom. She and her three children, Deckard (Jason Statham), the late Owen (Luke Evans), and Hattie (Vanessa Kirby) have been on both sides of the law, often switching loyalties but always remaining loyal to each other, even if begrudgingly. As the Fast & Furious movies have progressed, they have slowly become part of Dom’s extended professional family, as well.

4 The Hobbses

When first introduced in Fast Five, Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) was portrayed as a lone lawman who played by his own rules and made his job his number one priority. This turned out to not be the case, as the films eventually introduced his extended family. Furious 7 revealed Hobbs had a daughter named Samantha, and then Hobbs and Shaw brought in the rest of the extended Hobbs family. There is Sefina (Lori Pelenise Tuisano), the matriarch, and then there are Luke’s various brothers, including Jonah (Cliff Curtis), Mateo (Roman Reigns), Kal (John Tui), and Timo (Josh Mauga). Most of these characters haven’t been seen since Hobbs and Shaw, but with the return of Luke Hobbs in Fast X, perhaps there is more to come from the Hobbs family down the line in a sequel.

3 The Neveses

Despite only having three members, so far, the Neveses family’s place in the Fast Saga can be somewhat complex. In Fast Five Elena (Elsa Pataky) was Hobbs’ law enforcement partner, but she soon found herself romantically entangled with Dom. This relationship didn’t last, however, as Dom was always in love with Letty and chose to be with her once her memory came back. However, Elena was already pregnant with Dom’s child, making her the mother of Little B. Sadly, Elena was killed off in The Fate of Furious, but her younger sister, Isabel (Daniela Melchior), showed up in Fast X. It’s entirely possible, even likely considering the way the franchise operates, that Isabel will make an appearance in Fast & Furious 11.

2 The Mirthas

Even the most die-hard Fast and Furious fan may not be overly familiar with the Mirthas and their place in the franchise. Cara Mirtha (Mirtha Michelle) ran jobs with Dom and Letty in the Dominican Republic at the start of Fast & Furious and the short film Los Bandoleros. She only had a brief role; the most notable aspect of her character was her brief romantic relationship with Han. However, 12 years later in F9, rapper Cardi B made a cameo as Cara’s sister Leysa. Leysa also ran with Dom and her sister, but now runs an all-female paramilitary group. For the final Fast & Furious movie, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Cardi B return to the role, if only for a brief scene or two.

1 The Nobodies

Despite not having a real last name, the Nobodies have become a major part of the Fast and Furious series. Since Furious 7, Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody has served as the Nick Fury of the Fast Saga, doling out missions and seeding government secrets for the heroes. Unfortunately, Mr. Nobody disappeared in F9, and it’s unclear whether he’s dead or still alive. Then, in Fast X, his daughter, Tess (Brie Larson), joined the fold, helping Dom and his family after her father disappeared. However, Scott Eastwood’s Little Nobody is a Nobody in name only, sharing no relation to Tess or her father. The Nobodies are full of secrets and there is no telling just how deep their family tree goes.
