- Fans hope that if The Amazing Spider-Man 3 happens, it will be part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, connecting the franchise with other characters like Venom and Morbius.
- The potential film could provide an opportunity for Garfield’s Spider-Man to interact with the characters already introduced in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, building a cohesive world. #MakeTasm3
The adventures of Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker continue in a new The Amazing Spider-Man 3 fan trailer, including Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy and Tom Hardy’s Venom. Ever since Tobey Maguire and Garfield reprised their respective iterations of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Spider-Man: No Way Home, the world has been wanting to see more of their web crawlers. In Garfield’s case, he never got his The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which would have completed the Marc Webb trilogy had Sony Pictures not scrapped the movie.
Spider-Man: No Way Home sparked new life into the #MakeTasm3 campaign as social media users voiced their desire to see Sony Pictures finally give Garfield his own solo movie again, especially after The Amazing Spider-Man 3’s sudden cancellation. With an endless potential of story ideas at their disposal, Sony Pictures has numerous options for how they could tackle The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
Screen Culture recently released a The Amazing Spider-Man 3 fan-made trailer, where they pitch their own version of Garfield’s threequel. The story follows Garfield after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, as he not only takes on Hardy’s Venom but also meets a new Gwen, played once again by Stone.
Why The Amazing Spider-Man 3 Should Happen, But As Part Of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe
With rumors floating around that Maguire could get his own Spider-Man 4, there is no reason why Sony Pictures shouldn’t pursue The Amazing Spider-Man 3. However, if they were to move forward with another movie for Garfield, they should make his sequel tied to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Ever since that franchise was launched, they have yet to establish their actual Spider-Man in this continuity despite bringing in more characters related to the webhead.
The further Sony gets into their Spider-Man Universe, the sooner they will need to address what is happening with the Marvel icon. Given how tight-lipped they have been about his existence in the movie universe, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 could reveal that the Webb movies were always set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. It would especially make sense after Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Hardy’s character is aware of Spider-Man, given the Symbiote’s animosity towards Peter.
Tone-wise, The Amazing Spider-Man movies, and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe have always felt like they could easily have been the same world all along. Not only does that franchise get their Spider-Man, but it would give Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3 a chance to engage with the characters they have introduced so far, whether it be Venom, Morbius, or the upcoming debuts of Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web. For now, the world will have to wait and see if The Amazing Spider-Man 3 ever comes to fruition.
