Psych 4 receives a hopeful update despite an upcoming home release that calls the franchise “complete.” Premiered on USA in 2006, the series follows the crime consultant Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) who convinces others that he solves cases using psychic powers alongside his reluctant partner, Gus (Dulé Hill). Since the original series ended in 2014, Psych has received three feature films – Psych: The Movie, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, and Psych 3: This Is Gus. An upcoming Psych boxed set, which includes all eight seasons of the show and the three movies, calls the franchise’s library “complete.”
Now, despite the complete Blu-ray boxed set, Psych 4 has received a hopeful update in a new report. A Peacock source tells TV Line that discussions regarding bringing James Roday Rodriguez and Dulé Hill back for a fourth film are still ongoing.
Everything We Know About Psych 4
A follow-up to Psych 3: This Is Gus has been discussed ever since the third installment was released on Peacock in 2021. One of the first hopeful updates for Psych 4 came from star Jazmyn Simon, who appeared in all three movies, saying that as long as fans want more movies, they will keep making them. Earlier this year, Rodriguez revealed that Psych 4 is closer to happening than one might think. Rodriguez, who also co-wrote all three movies with creator Steve Franks, said that the script for Psych 4 was finished and scheduling was underway.
Echoing Rodriguez’s sentiment, series star Kurt Fuller has suggested that Psych 4 is right around the corner. However, in another interview from this year, Rodriguez revealed that Psych 4 “was all lined up” to start filming last year, though scheduling issues prevented it from starting production. Since then, the SAG-AFTRA strike started on July 14, so Psych 4 will have to wait until the actors union and AMPTP reach a fair deal before filming can begin. With no end to the SAG-AFTRA strike in sight, it’s unclear when Psych 4 will finally come to fruition.
