Does The Apple Watch Series 8 Come With A Charger In The Box?

The Apple Watch Series 8 comes with a couple of in-box accessories, but does that include a charger? Apple unveiled the Watch Series 8 alongside the Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch SE 2. It comes with a number of noteworthy upgrades over the Watch Series 7, including a temperature sensor for improved cycle tracking and Crash Detection that can detect car crashes and automatically contact emergency services. The Series 8 also comes with a Low Power Mode that Apple claims can extend the battery life up to 36 hours.

The Apple Watch Series 8 comes with limited in-box accessories that include a watch band and magnetic charging dock with an attached USB-C cable. However, it does not come with a charging adapter. This means users will need to buy a power adapter with a USB Type-C port, or use the USB-C port on their computer to charge their Watch Series 8.

Charging The Apple Watch Series 8

Apple is known for removing in-box accessories that were once taken for granted, and was the first to get rid of the power brick from its retail boxes for iPhones and Apple Watches. Thankfully, it still provides the magnetic charger free-of-charge with the Apple Watch. It is worth noting that instead of the in-box charging dock, users can also use a MagSafe Duo Charger or an Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock to charge their Watch Series 8.

Those who do not already have a power brick with a USB-C port can buy Apple’s 20W USB power adapter or the Magnetic Fast Charging Dock, especially if they want to invest in an official Apple accessory. However, there are better deals available from third-party brands like Belkin or Anker. Some of these accessories can even charge multiple Apple devices simultaneously, including an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. These are a bit cheaper, and offer a safe and efficient way to charge the Apple Watch Series 8.

Does Apple Watch Series 8 Support Wireless Charging?

While the Apple Watch Series 8 does support wireless charging, it does not adopt the Qi wireless charging standard. As a result, users will need to attach it to the magnetic charging puck that comes in the box, or use a compatible third-party charger. While this limits the types of wireless chargers that can be used with Apple Watch, even the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 has a similar limitation. The Galaxy Watch 5 supports Qi charging, but it doesn’t work with all Qi chargers, and can only be used with those certified by the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium).

While the iPhone is Qi-certified, it does not support reverse wireless charging, a feature that’s been offered on Samsung flagships for years. Samsung users can charge their Galaxy Watch using their Galaxy smartphone, which is a neat feature that comes in handy in an emergency. Even if Apple were to bring reverse wireless charging to future iPhones, it would still be incompatible with the Apple Watch Series 8, given that the smartwatch uses a different form of wireless charging.
